Arrive at Quantico Marine Museum for a special opening of the Beirut section in the Museum.  There was
lots of press and turned out to be a great way to get attention for the 25th Beirut Memorial and Stamp.
You can do a Google search on "Mike Bangert Beirut"  and see all the different articles and press
coverage so far.  What a great country this was!
After all the press and excitement I headed down the road .  I rode through  Quantico  and stopped at a
great restaurant, The Globe and Laurel.  The owner a former Marine Maj. and I  had a great time eating
and discussing current issues.  We got passed Fredricksburg Area and headed for the hotel to get cleaned
up,get food, and get rest.  Back on the bike tomorrow!

DAY FIVE
Back on the bike and ready to get to the next destination which is Richmond.  The ride was a bit tedious
since I was riding on a busy route.  So not much time to enjoy scenery since it was primarily congested and
alot of traffic to watch out for.I did have an interview with the Free-Lance Star, Fredricksburg Va.  You can
do a google search to read the article. It took several hours including a stop or two before I arrived in the
Richmond area.

DAY SIX
The weather is starting to change a bit, predictions of rain tomorrow.  It has been warn and sunny for most
of my rides.  I headed toward Emporia on 301 S.  This was a great route.  It meandered through small towns
and there was a bike path that was off and on so I didn't have to be on the street much.  I felt like I was
ready to finish  this leg of the ride and get some rest.    It was a good thing because all that was in this town
was a big discount store.  Not sure where people work in this town.  There were alot of trains that went
through the town all night long.

DAY SEVEN
I got back on Route 301.  This was one of my best rides.  The country side is wide open and the terrain is
pretty flat.  Any hills were a long slow very gradual incline.  So I guess I would call that a slope and not a
hill.
I made great time on this leg of the trip.  I arrived in RockyMount, N.C.  in record time of 3 1/2 hours.  This
gave me time to relax and enjoy a good meal and take in some of the local sights.  I met some people at
Gators and they asked all about what I was doing.  Of course thats all I need to give them all the
information possible.  It was cool.  They wrote down what they needed to do and who to call to co-sponsor
H.Res. 887!   I got a good nights rest. I will be headed to Goldsboro, N.C.

DAY EIGHT
Got a great start today.  Penn State plays today at 4:00 so planned the ride to make kick-off.  At first it was
very busy on 301 S.  I had a couple of semi's get about 6" away from me when I was riding.  I kept on and
stayed focused.  It was cool when I started out, 56 degrees and then a fine drizzle started.  It stayed that
way the entire rest of the ride.  Once in awhile the rain increased but then went back to a fine drizzle.  I
then headed S. on 117 after about an hour.  Stopped for a road side lunch with my support crew.  They
brought the food and I was happy to eat.  It was about 8 miles from Wilson.  After a lunch break and
warming up in the vehicle I hit the road again and the support headed off to our next stop to get settled in.
I trucked on and really enjoyed the flat land.  It made my long ride easy and somewhat relaxing.  I arrived
in Goldsboro around 4:00 and made it in time for kick-off.  I got a HOT shower and got dry clothes  and am
watching the game  with some other Penn State fans.  We talked about the ride and 25th Beirut Memorial
and H.Res. 887.  I also met a son of a Beirut Veteran.  We talked about the 25th Remembrance and The
Stamp. It was good to make contact with more people and get the word out. It is an honor to be riding for
the memory of the brave men that gave their lives in Beirut.  Support H.Res. 887

DAY NINE
Well this was the last leg of the bicycle trip. We got a great send-off from some Ohio State guys..of course
Penn State will beat them Sat.!  They laughed and said they would call their Reps.I headed toward
Jacksonville, N.C.  and the sun was out and the wind was blowing.  The landscape was flat and slightly
downhill but the wind was swirling every which way.  That made riding difficult and somewhat slow.  At I
approached Jacksonville the support vehicle was in back of me so we received a lot of honks and thumbs up
from passerby.  Since arriving I have had an interview with the Jackson  Daily News.  It will be published
on Wed.  I have had the opportunity to talk with  quite a few Marines and they are contacting parents to
have them support H.Res. 887 in different parts of the country..  Ceremonies begin tomorrow  and it will be
a full couple of days.  The fight to get cosponsors for H.Res. 887 will continue pass the 25th Remembrance.
I thank all of you for your support and encouragement and contributions.
Our first duty is to Remember!  H.Res 887
The bicycle ride started with an interview with Channel 10 News  at Rep. Shusters Regional Office in
Holidaysburg, PA.  After a short interview by Ben and some filming by Dick,   I headed off on 36 South.
The sun was shining and a temperature of 62 degrees and light traffic.   The support vehicle and the
Channel 10 News van followed me up a long gradual incline to do some live filming.  The interview can be
seen at the Channel 10 website, (www.wearecentralpa.com).  Made a stop for lunch  to load up on carbs and
plenty of fluids and had the opportunity to talk with some folks about the Beirut 25th Memorial and the
Stamp.  The sign on the support vehicle helps to draw attention.  The ride was 64 miles and the last couple
of large hills were a challenge.I followed 36 S. and then 26 N. to 915 S then 16 S. to   end the day in
McConnellsburg, PA and was ready for a good night sleep.

DAY TWO
T
he ride from McConnellsburg to Williamsport was mostly on the road so the riding was easy because of
the road bike that I have and most of the ride being downhill.  The availability of wifi has been interesting
to say the least.  Most place don't have internet  so I am a few days behind with my updates.  It does make
me feel out of touch with things and appreciate the area I live in for such "amenities".

DAY THREE
I hit the trail early on the C & O to D.C.
What a great ride.  This trail is amazing with all the history and scenery.  The trees are really starting to
change colors.  I ended up in Georgetown and finally met my support crew at the Mall in D.C.  They seem
to have gotten turned around and I made better time than I thought I would.  It was much easier for me to
go to them than them trying to navigate around D.C.

DAY OFF
So I am really glad I scheduled a day off cause that 100 mile ride  really kicked my ass!  I could barley
move and walking was an effort.  I started moving and it helped a great deal.   I spent the day catching up
with reporters and making arrangement to get some press coverage at Quantico Marine Base.  Don't forget
that "The First Duty is to Remember".  This is the Beirut Veterans motto.  So continue to fight the good
fight and call you Congressional Rep.
Support the STAMP!
Went to a great bicycle shop and they really hooked me up with some great maps for trails to Quantico. So
am looking forward to hitting the road again tomorrow.

DAY FOUR
I started off very slow on Route 1.  I couldn't  get over how much lactic acid I had built up.  It hurt to walk
in the morning.  I could really feel it in my quads and calves.  I was just glad that my back felt good.  I felt
like I was going in slow motion.  It took about a half hour to even feel comfortable on the bicycle.  I finally
felt relaxed and loosened up about half way through my ride..  The route is not as scenic as the the last
couple of days.  There is traffic so was concerned about getting run over by one of those big trucks.  The
weather is warm and I was excited to approach Quantico Marine Base.
